WisdomTree Launches Tokenized Options Income Fund, Bridging Traditional Asset Management and Blockchain
Global asset manager WisdomTree has introduced a new digital asset fund, the WisdomTree Equity Premium Income Digital Fund, which brings a traditional options strategy on-chain. This development highlights the growing convergence between traditional asset management and blockchain-based financial infrastructure. The fund, trading under the token ticker EPXC and the fund ticker WTPIX, is designed to track the price and yield performance of the Volos US Large Cap Target 2.5% PutWrite Index.
The benchmark models a systematic “put writing” strategy where the index sells cash-collateralized put options to generate income. Instead of writing options directly on the S&P 500, the strategy uses contracts tied to the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY), effectively earning premiums by acting as an options seller. For investors concerned about volatility or downside risk, put writing can provide a predictable stream of premium income and a modest buffer in flat or slightly declining markets. The EPXC fund is available to both institutional and private investors. Since the fund is tokenized, it can also be used by crypto-native users who benefit from the blockchain infrastructure, which offers faster settlement and more flexible transferability compared to traditional fund structures.
WisdomTree’s Expansion into Tokenized Assets
Will Peck, WisdomTree’s head of digital assets, stated that the launch is intended to give investors greater choice in implementing their on-chain investment strategies, marking another step in the company’s broader push into tokenized assets. WisdomTree was among the first asset managers to explore tokenization and now operates 15 tokenized funds on multiple blockchains, including Ethereum, Avalanche, and Base.
Its Government Money Market Digital Fund — a tokenized version of a traditional government money market fund that invests in short-term U.S. government bonds — is the company’s most active tokenized product, with over $730 million in assets, according to industry data. Industry Trends and Adoption
The broader financial and asset management industry has been slower to adapt to tokenization, with institutions such as Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon only recently launching tokenized money market products. Some industry participants view the trend as a possible response to the rapid rise of stablecoins, which now serve as de facto cash instruments across much of the digital asset ecosystem.
