Spacecoin Achieves Milestone with First Blockchain Transaction via Satellite

Spacecoin has successfully executed the first blockchain transaction to travel through space, marking a significant breakthrough in the project’s mission to take decentralization to orbit. The transaction was transmitted via a nanosatellite over 7,000 kilometers between Chile and Portugal, and was presented at the TOKEN2049 event in Singapore on October 1.

The signal was sent from Punta Arenas, Chile, and reached the CTC-0 nanosatellite, which then relayed it to the Azores, Portugal, where it was validated on the testnet. This achievement demonstrates the potential for blockchain transactions to be conducted independently of traditional internet infrastructure, enabling secure and censorship-resistant communication in regions with limited or no internet access.

Decentralization Beyond Earth’s Borders

Spacecoin’s mission is to harness the power of satellite technology to create a decentralized, global network that can facilitate financial transactions and communication in areas without reliable internet connectivity. By using satellites to transmit blockchain transactions, Spacecoin aims to provide a secure and resilient alternative to traditional internet-based systems, which can be vulnerable to failures, censorship, and cost barriers.

The successful completion of the first blockchain transaction via satellite is a significant step towards achieving this goal. As noted in the press release, “a decentralized satellite-based system can provide global, censorship-resistant, and independent internet access,” enabling communication in regions affected by conflicts or with limited infrastructure.

Expanding Satellite Capabilities

Spacecoin is planning to launch three additional satellites in the fourth quarter of 2025, which will enable communication between satellites and demonstrate the project’s capabilities on several continents. This expansion will further enhance the security and resilience of the network, allowing for more efficient and reliable transmission of blockchain transactions.

The project’s use of nanosatellites, provided by European nanosatellite company EnduroSat, has been instrumental in achieving this milestone. As the project continues to develop and expand its capabilities, it is likely to have a significant impact on the future of decentralized communication and financial transactions.
